Mount Grace is partnering with Centennial House Bed and Breakfast in Northfield's historic district to give Centennial House guests a glimpse into the region's nature and culture Tour. The tour offers 3 hikes and walks, as well as a river cruise along the Connecticut River. Explore 3 of the inspiring places protected by Mount Grace and learn about the cultural history of the region. Many other recommendations will be available to explore on your own including nearby Historic Deerfield and local farm-to-table restaurants.
Day 1: Wednesday, July 10th, 3pm: Check in at the Centennial House
Alderbrook Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary Walk – 4:30-5:30pm
Join Lis McLoughlin of the Mount Grace Board for a relaxing and easy late afternoon walk on a property filled with history and culture. The wheel-chair accessible trail meanders through pines, highlighting the historical and cultural significance of this traditional Native American site as you make your way to the beaver pond and on the wildlife viewing deck at the end of the trail. If you’re lucky (and quiet!), you might be able to observe beavers, snapping turtles, and various species of birds.
Day 2: Thursday, July 11th, Breakfast at Centennial House
Heritage River Boat Cruise on the Connecticut River—10:30am-1pm
Enjoy a relaxing interpretive cruise on the Connecticut River. After the cruise, guests will have a free afternnon, with recommendations of places to visit provided, including Historic Deerfield & Northfield Mountain Recreation and Environmental Center followed by the option of a late hike.
Sunset and Moonrise Hike – Richardson Outlook, Alexander Hill Road, 8pm-on
Join Mount Grace staff, for a short hike to the Richardson Outlook on Stratton Mountain offering a magnificent view to observe the sunset, the moonrise, and the stars. Relax by a fire with s’mores, observe constellations through the telescope, or venture around to the cabin and spur trails as you wish, for a perfect summer evening! Shelter and bathroom facilities available.
Day 3: Friday, July 12th, Breakfast at Centennial House, checkout by 10am before leaving for hike
Devil’s Washbowl Hike – Gale Road, Warwick 10:30am-12:00am
Take in the beauty of a hemlock forest with this guided hike passing over brooks and alongside a beaver pond. The trail will lead to the “Washbowl”, a seasonal waterfall over impressive rock formation. Practice forest-bathing and listen to the sound of rushing water for a true feeling of immersion in nature, before looping around to a quiet woods road back to the kiosk.
Prices per room for a three-day stay are $419-$439 (same price for single or double occupancy) with discounts of $50 for Mount Grace members.
