Backpacks for Beals: Making the Outdoors Accessible

Nature Adventure Backpacks contain binoculars, a compass, field guides, and interactive worksheets

In Winchendon, books are not the only things you can check out from the library. Mount Grace has partnered with the Beals Memorial Library and created nature adventure backpacks that contain everything you might need to have an exciting experience in the outdoors! These bright orange bags contain binoculars, a compass, field guides, and interactive worksheets if you are looking for something to help guide your hike. Hikers can complete a scavenger hunt, record their observations, and more with these reusable sheets.

This project has been designed to increase access to the outdoors by providing the gear people may want to enhance their hiking experience, and the adventure backpacks are perfect for families. The backpacks were made possible thanks to grants from the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts and the Robinson Broadhurst Foundation and are designed to be used by people of all ages. Children who love to explore, novice birders, experienced hikers, and anyone in between will find something to use in these bags.

Mount Grace will be hosting events for families in Winchendon to try out the backpacks soon, so stay tuned!

Interested in checking out a backpack? If you are 18 or older you can now do so at the Beals Memorial Library for a week at a time. We hope to see these bright bags out on the trails soon!
