Location: Millers River Environmental Center, Athol
Did you know that in order to receive regulatory protection, a vernal pool must first be certified? The certification process relies on citizens and volunteers to assess vernal pools and submit documentation to MassWildlife.
Join us in person at the Millers River Environmental Center or online via Zoom for a webinar on vernal pool certification presented by Scott Jackson. Scott is a recently retired Extension Professor in the Department of Environmental Conservation at University of Massachusetts Amherst and has long been a leader in wetland and amphibian conservation.
His work has included the development of wildlife underpass systems to support safe animal movement across roads, landscape-based modeling and assessment tools, and the creation of the Conservation Assessment and Prioritization System. During this presentation, Scott will explain the vernal pool certification process, how volunteers can get involved, and why certifying vernal pools is so important for protecting wildlife habitat.
