MG40 Trails Challenge

Forty Years. Forty Hikes. One Shared Landscape.

To mark Mount Grace's 40th anniversary, we’re inviting you to explore the landscape we’ve spent four decades protecting. Register for the MG40 Trails Challenge and we’ll send you a list of 40 hikes on protected land across the region— from quiet wetland boardwalks to summit scrambles with sweeping views. Complete them in any order and at your own pace over the next twelve months. Every hike you log is a little celebration of what conservation makes possible: protected places that will remain open for future generations of wildlife and people alike to enjoy. Here are four hikes to get you started:

Follow the instructions below to get started with the MG40 Trails Challenge – it's easy and available to everyone!

  1. Register: Sign up online by filling out the registration form at the bottom of this page.
  2. Get Your List: Once you've signed up online, we’ll send your list of 40 hikes across the region. This will be your guide to the challenge – you can check off each hike as you complete them, and fill out the date window to log when you hiked each one.
  3. Hike All Year: With list in-hand, you can get started exploring at your own pace, solo or with friends and family! If you'd like to register as a family, that works, too!
  4. Log Your Hikes: Log completed hikes for entries into our prize drawing. Based on the number of hikes you complete, we'll have tiered prizes including merch baskets, local gift cards, OnX Backcountry memberships, hiking gear, and more!

The MG40 Trails Challenge is free and open to all. Whether you like to run, hike, bike, snowshoe, birdwatch, or all of the above, we invite you to join the challenge! There really is no “right” way to explore the properties on the list.

Timeframe: October 1, 2026 - October 1, 2027 – all tracker forms must be submitted in-person or online by November 1, 2027.

Logging your Hikes: All adventures must be logged using the property tracker form. This will be your “ticket” to enter into the prize drawings at the end of the challenge.

About the Properties: Mount Grace Land Trust does not manage all of the properties listed on the MG40 trails challenge tracker. Please be sure to follow all local rules and regulations. For information about specific properties, please contact Mount Grace's Communications Manager Kolya Partan at partan@mountgrace.org.

Share Your Trail Adventures: We’d love to see where the challenge takes you! Capture a favorite moment from the trail, a beautiful view, or a photo with your fellow MG40ers, and send it our way at partan@ mountgrace.org. We'd love to feature photos from the trail on our website, in our e-newsletter, or across our social media channell – it'll be a fun way for us to celebrate your adventures and inspire others to explore!
